Magnesium is a life-giving supplement that helps your body and cells function on every level possible. Without it, you can not live at all, and when it's low, which is extremely common, it affects your quality of life in ways we can't explain.

An RBC magnesium blood test is slightly more accurate on a cellular level but not foolproof.
So, how do you replenish? Well, your body doesn't make magnesium on its own, so you need to feed it magnesium. Some people can get their most basic survival levels through food and a multivitamin, but with those two methods alone, you will likely still run into a deficiency down the road. With that being said, some foods are still much higher in magnesium than others such as dark chocolate, leafy greens, avocados and nuts. So you always want to incorporate some of these into your regular diet.
What you want to do to truly replenish is hit your body with magnesium from multiple angles and pathways, because it leaks from our bodies so quickly and is very hard to replenish properly. You want to take an oral (preferably liquid) supplement, as well as a topical product that is absorbed through the skin. You can buy magnesium oil or gel, which is highest absorption and can tingle on the skin and even have a slight burning sensation if you are highly deficient, but won't hurt you or your skin. For something more suitable for children to start with, you can buy magnesium lotion products and magnesium salts for the bath to soak in. This is an incredibly safe supplement to take, the main side effect of taking too much oral magnesium is bowel intolerance. If that happens, you would just back off your oral dosage slightly.
