Since Koster Kare is also very much intertwined with holistic methods, as some of our employees are also graduates of The Institute for Integrated Nutrition, we thought it only be appropriate to also share some of that content as well!
Wild blueberries are a miraculous and very easy food to incorporate into your entire family's diet! Their extremely high antioxidant and dense nutrient levels make them one of the healthiest foods on the planet! Not only do they have the unique ability to detox heavy metals from the entire body and the brain, but taking one cup of WILD blueberries everyday for three years can restore the brain back to it's original state. Regular, cultivated blueberries don't stand a chance against their WILD friends. Wild are often smaller and darker and definitely stain.
It is a crucial food that can be one of the first foods to add into a toddler's diet.
When you see purple or blue plant based foods, think brain, memory and mood. They help with learning and overall brain health.
These little babies also help to restore the liver and are a powerful prebiotic. The wild blueberry plant in and of itself can survive a fire. A fire! That is how resilient these plants are. The berry is symbolic of that healing and restoration and helps the body to "regrow," if you will, after an illness or major trauma.
Basically, every human on the planet should be consuming one to two cups of these berries daily. You will feel a difference in your body almost immediately after eating them. A small shift in energy, a refreshing clarity, these are, in our opinion, the healthiest food on the planet. They are easy to consume as well. Throwing them into a smoothie with apple juice (preferably fresh if you have a juicer), with a touch of maple syrup is our favorite way to eat them. It comes out like a blueberry slushie and tastes so fresh and flavorful!
People always ask this question. Fresh or frozen? What is better? Wild blueberries are actually very difficult to find fresh. Often times, frozen fruit is just as or even MORE nutrient dense than fresh fruits. Unfortunately, when we are buying our produce these days, the food is picked and left for days upon days, losing a large amount of nutrients in the process. Frozen fruit is frozen very quickly, keeping those nutrients in tact.
So where do you find them? Not every store carries them, but due to their recent growing popularity, most do. You will almost always find these in the frozen food section at the supermarket and if you live in the US, you will want to look for wild blueberries from Maine and if in Canada, focus on Eastern Canadian wild blueberries.
Don't fall for the trap of marketing either. We found one company naming their blueberries “WILD AND CRAZY BLUEBERRIES” and they were your average run of the mill cultivated blues.
Don't get tricked!
So go ahead, RUN to your local grocery store and enjoy the wonderful, healing and restorative brain and overall health benefits of these little blue miracles!
